“Tread” Review

Directed by Paul Solet. With Marvin Heemeyer, Patrick Brower, Glenn Trainor Jr., Casey Farrell. Pushed to his breaking point, a master welder in a small town at the foot of the Rocky Mountains quietly fortifies a bulldozer with 30 tons of concrete and steel and seeks to destroy those he believes have wronged him.

The story of a man that got pushed too far, took things too personally, and couldn’t just move past the implied and explicit offenses he suffered at the hands of the local good ol’ boys network that was in place in a small town when he moved in. The documentary itself does a great job of building the story we all know about, setting the scene for the last third which is filled with camera and new reports on the rampage of destruction he orchestrated from the cabin of his own hand made kill dozer. As movie fans, we’re all familiar with the Revenge storyline in which something horrible happens in the first act, then the hero character go about his revenge setting the world right. Charles Bronson build an entire franchise off the concept, and there’s been thousands of books written of the same thing, so it’s not surprising that they would mention that Marv was consuming that kind of content while he was building his personal assault vehicle.

It’s a well done story that’s captivating for all the right reasons and is currently on Netflix.
