Saban’s Power Rangers (2017)

Five ordinary teenagers must team together to become something extraordinary in order to save the world from being obliterated by an alien threat.

Much better than I expected, I really did think we were going to get another Transformers or GI Joe out of this, but it ended up being somewhat more professionally done with just a hint of the visual mess that was Transformers and only the barest glimpse of how badly written GI Joe was. I would have been happier if the villain was more fleshed out and much happier if the giant robots were more distinctive and less like generic robots. The Megazoid itself was likely the least satisfying thing in the entire movie, I take great umbrage at the fact they had the rangers in 5 different spots on the front of the giant robot. How in the world are they supposed to do synchronized hand movements if they can’t see each other? This utter disregard for the series cannon completely destroyed my suspension of disbelief!

All in all though, it was a great movie with a pretty kicking sound track by Brian Taylor. If you think you haven’t heard his work before, you likely have but didn’t know who he was. Keep an eye on him, he’s going to be doing some great stuff in the future.
